Crowdfunding is rapidly growing in popularity as a source of funding for many startups, particularly in the tech industries. There are however a number of pitfalls for the unwary.

This talk will address how crowdfunding is currently regulated and what the state of play will be after recent government amendments come into force later this year. This talk will also provide some practical tips of where this leaves you.

Shane Barber

Shane is the Managing Partner of Bird & Bird in Australia.

Shane is also the lead partner of the firm’s Australian Corporate Law and Media Law groups, and one of the key partners in the firm’s Tech & Comms group. He enjoys a high profile in the Australian legal industry and has over 27 years’ experience acting for some of Australia’s major corporations in the knowledge economy sectors.

Shane conducts a busy corporate practice, including undertaking mergers and acquisitions, fundraising (including IPOs), capital markets advisory work and corporate regulatory advice. Many of his clients are significant national and international organisations in new economy industries, increasingly in relation to ecommerce enterprises in the advertising and travel and leisure industries.

Shane has twice served as President of Australia's Communications and Media Law Association and is a former editor of the Communications Law Bulletin.

Shane is recognised in international publications such as Who's Who Legal, Best Lawyers and Chambers Asia Pacific.
